This is our graph of Twitter message volume growth in the last few years.

We’ve compiled this from data we located around the Web, including from Twitter, Inc., Quora, and various analysts. Notably, today Twitter announced their new message volume has reached 340 million messages/day, which more than doubles where it was last year.

If this growth rate continues, then the total number of messages being received by each Twitter user per day will soon far exceed what any user can read (some would say this is already the case).

This is why tools like Bottlenose (, @bottlenoseapp) are necessary.

There has to be a way for users to see what’s going on in these vast, constantly moving streams of messages. No human can keep up with this amount of change without help.
